This website is dedicated to educating the Australian population about First Nations sport, exploring the origins and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, the benefits and barriers associated with sport, and initiatives and organisations which provide better opportunities to First Nations peoples in sport.

Join me in creating a society where everyone better understands the issues surrounding Aboriginal participation in sport, and is able to offer support towards First Nations people, creating a safer and more inclusive sporting environment.

Sport plays a positive role in Aboriginal communities, improving health outcomes for both physical and mental health, improving social and emotional wellbeing, promoting education, and community connectedness. However, it is evident that physical activity levels are not being met among Aboriginal communities, with most recent data showing that 38% of First Nations adults aged 18-64 are likely to meet the physical activity guidelines in comparison with 46% of non-Indigenous adults the same age.
This is due to the barriers being faced within sport for First Nations peoples. This includes factors such as racism, accessibility and underrepresentation. To combat these issues, these steps must be taken, and by reading this website, you are taking some of the first steps, in educating yourself:

creating ethical, and effective communication with First Nations communities regarding sports

understanding that sport does not solve all issues, but is a factor that contributes to solving issues

create more programs which look at increasing physical activity participation for First Nations women and create more pathways within sport at all levels of abilities and skills

have more representation of First Nations peoples in roles such as coaches, umpires, role models and representation at smaller and larger levels
